People’s Partnership has appointed Nadia Al Yafai to the new role of social purpose and sustainable business director.

Al Yafai joins from Royal London where she led the purpose, social impact and mutuality agenda for the pension provider.  She has held senior roles at a number of financial and professional services organisations and has previously been a board member for the the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability. She has also worked for the board of the charity Groundwork, which tackles social and environmental challenges locally, from skills training to climate action.

People’s Partnership says it has a focus on responsible business activities , donating £4.6m from its charitable trust sine inception. It has also partnered with the digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation.

It runs the People’s Pension master trust, which has strengthened its responsible investment mandate in recent years. Last year it switched significant a proportion of its investments away from State Street Global Advisors, awarding new mandates to European-based Amundi and Invesco to ensure greater alignment with its stewardship principles.

Commenting on her appointment, Al Yafai  says: “This strategic new role recognises the importance of continuing to define, embed and evidence our social purpose across everything we do.

“We want to stay true to our heritage, while ensuring our products, innovations, and activities, continue to make a real difference to millions in society.”

Deborah Finlayson, chief people officer at People’s Partnership says:: “Pension providers play a central role in building long-term financial resilience for everyone, and the need for values-driven, courageous leadership has never been more important.

This isn’t about paying lip service, it’s about delivering transformative products, partnerships and initiatives that will continue to be laser-focused on meeting real societal needs.”
