Prime minister David Cameron today confirmed that Altmann will take the role in the capacity of Conservative peer.
Prior to the election Altmann had turned down the offer of serving as pensions minister in a future Conservative government, instead accepting the offer of a newly-created role of minister for financial protection and education. The Conservative’s comprehensive parliamentary majority and former pension minister Steve Webb’s loss of his Yate and Thornbury seat have cleared the way for her to accept the pensions minister role.
