Pensions written out of Govt saving infographic

A Government infographic on savings makes no mention of pensions or help to save, despite having a section targeting later life provision.

The infographic, headed ‘ways to save in 2017’ makes two references to the Lifetime Isa, which it says can be used for retirement saving, as well as referring to the Junior Isa, the Help to Buy Isa, Premium bonds and cash and stocks and shares Isas. But it makes no mention at all of pensions or help to save.

Hargreaves Lansdown head of retirement policy Tom McPhail says: “This is illustrative of the government’s struggle to present a coherent joined-up policy on savings, investments and provision for later life; it’s as if they’ve completely forgotten about pensions and help to save. The Treasury and the DWP have to be able to show that their respective policies across long-term saving, retirement and the ageing society actually join together in ways that work for ordinary investors.”
