Working together theme for AMII conference

THE 2010 Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries (AMII) exhibition and conference will be themed ’Working Together for a Healthier Britain’ and aims to attract both AMII members and nonmember IFAs and brokers.

The event aims to debate the role of private medical insurance in supplementing what the NHS has to offer.

AMII is also launching its new health insurance exam, in association with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 28 April. The objective of the examination is to provide knowledge of the fundamental principles and practices relating to healthcare insurance and in so doing demonstrate professional standards to consumers to inspire their confidence and trust.

The examination’s syllabus will cover seven key areas including structure of the UK healthcare insurance market, product types and applying risk assessment, rating and underwriting considerations and respective roles and responsibilities of intermediaries and healthcare insurers. Full
details will be announced at AMII’s AGM.

Mike Izzard, Chairman of AMII, says: “As the nation prepares for an election that will shape the face of Britain for the next five years, the fate of the health service will come into focus as never before. Both main parties have elected to use the NHS and the need for greater utilisation of private healthcare provision as cornerstones of their election manifestos. Backing the NHS is not in any doubt, what is under scrutiny is the need to supplement public health provision with private health resources.

“Where will this leave the PMI market and what opportunities will a new Government provide for intermediaries and insurers?”
