Zurich to enter group risk market in New Year

The insurer has unveiled a string of high profile appointments ahead of its launch into the sector, including former Friends Provident group risk marketing manager Bob Cheesewright and former Unum finance director Jonathan Plumtree.
Plumbtree, who spent nearly 20 years with Unum, becomes head of the new business, which is to be known as Zurich Corporate Risk. Cheesewright is taking the role of proposition director, while former Unum customer solutions director Cheryl Brewer becomes distribution director of the new risk provider.
Jason Cripps is taking the role of operations director, moving across from Zurich’s corporate pensions department. John Roberts becomes group risk actuary at the new provider, joining from Canada Life, where he held the position of finance director.
The insurer is currently recruiting the remainder of its new corporate risk team.
David Etherington, chief growth officer at Zurich says: “We are delighted to be able to announce our intention to enter the group risk market, which will complement our growing corporate pensions business.

“The announcement of our executive leadership team underlines our commitment to the group risk market. We believe that this newly created team will provide us with the right combination of skills and experience to succeed in this specialist market”.
