The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) has appointed Lesley Alexander as its new president.

Alexander has been a non-executive director on the board since 2018, and is already in her second term on the advisory council, which she will now chair.

Alexander has over 20 years’ experience in the pensions industry.  She is currently a director with ZenZero Consulting, a firm specialising in strategic solutions for UK pension schemes, and was previously partner and managing director at Ferrier Pearce, as well as CEO of the HSBC Bank Pension Trust.

She replaces Lesley Carline of KGC Associates, who steps down from her role as president having now completed her two year term.

Tim Phillips of Smart Pension will remain in his role as vice president for a further year, as well as maintaining his position on the PMI Board as non-executive director.

Sara Cook, principal at Barnett Waddingham has been elected as a second vice president. Cook will join Alexander and Phillips on the PMI Board as a non-executive director as part of her role.

The PMI CEO Gareth Tancred says: “As the PMI continues in its goal to encourage high standards across the UK pension industry, the role of president is crucial. Alexander brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our leadership team.”

Alexander adds: “As the pensions industry battles the challenges that the global coronavirus pandemic has created, I am delighted to support  the PMI as it aims to guide the industry through these unchartered waters.”

The appointment is effective from today, October 6.
