Aviva announces today that LGIM’s former head of DC Emma Douglas has been appointed managing director, workplace savings.
Douglas’s responsibilities at LGIM will be taken over by Rita Butler-Jones, head of DC sales, and Stuart Murphy, head of DC client management. The provider says it is seeking a successor to Douglas to head its DC business.
Douglas, who has presided over a significant expansion of Legal & General’s DC book in recent years, will report to Rob Barker, Managing Director, UK Savings & Retirement. Barker took the role last month, having previously been MD of Aviva’s health and protection business. L&G’s DC assets stood at £114bn at the end of 2020, up from £43bn in September 2015.
Douglas has over 20 years of experience in the investment management industry. Prior to her role at Legal & General, she was partner and head of workplace savings at Mercer and head of DC sales at BlackRock.
The appointment follows a series of high profile departures from Aviva, with Colin Williams leaving his role as Aviva’s MD of workplace savings & retirement and financial advice in January, to join Phoenix in a move that sees him reunited with former Aviva colleagues Andy Briggs and Andy Curran.
Barker says: “I am delighted that Emma is joining Aviva to lead our highly-successful workplace savings business. We see big opportunities to continue to grow our business and Emma’s knowledge and experience in the market will further strengthen our team.”
Douglas says: “I’m delighted to join Aviva and look forward to leading the Workplace Savings team, which is a recognised leader in the sector and delivered strong net flows in 2020.”
A spokesperson for LGIM says: “Emma has overseen the continued growth of LGIM’s DC business during her seven years with the firm and we wish her every success in her future endeavours.
