Unum has partnered with Toothfairy as part of an enhancement of its dental product range.
All clients will now be able to access this additional digital service. Unum says this is to support employees during the current dental care crisis, which has left some people struggling to book in-person dental check-ups and appointments.
The Toothfairy app will be integrated into the Unum Dental offering for all insured employees. This offers a helpline, enabling users to talk online with qualified dentists, video consultations, virtual examinations and a real-time symptom checker and discounts on cosmetic treatment.
In addition users can access a dentist-led emergency appointment finder and access other Unum services, like its discount scheme and wellbeing calendar.
As part of this enhancement, Unum is also increasing benefit levels to address the rising costs of treatments. It has also simplified the clinical terminology used in policies, making the claims process easier for customers to navigate.
Unum UK chief distribution officer Glenn Thompson says: “Our research revealed that 21 per cent of employees avoided dental appointments in 2023 due to the cost-of-living crisis — we want to address that head-on with our innovative new products, quality services and everyday dental care and support.
“Our flexible Dental offering follows our digitally-enabled, consumer-centric approach, built around modern-day employee needs. It’s designed to make dental insurance — and treatment — quicker and more affordable.” He adds that the range of preventative services are key to reducing the need for more intensive and costly treatments.
Dentist and Toothfairy CEO Dr Deepak Aulak adds: “During a national dental crisis, we see our digital dental solution as complementing Unum’s Dental product, helping its customers get better access to a dentist and improving their oral, and overall, health.
“We are excited to offer our evidence-based solution to make a real impact, especially as many dental diseases are preventable and early intervention is key.”
