Aviva Investors revamps retirement income portfolios

Aviva Investors has updated its range of three Retirement Income Model Portfolios (MPS) to help investors manage income in retirement, using Aviva Investors, which has expertise in managing institutional workplace pension strategies and external funds.

The updated portfolios were launched in 2022 with SimplyBiz and now form part of SimplyBiz’s Risk Controlled Workflow. They aim to tackle key retirement risks like living longer and market timing by targeting regular income through fund distributions, using Aviva Investors’ strategic asset allocation approach.

The new MPS will have three portfolio options: AI Retirement Income Portfolio I (Lowest risk), AI Retirement Income Portfolio II (Medium risk) and AI Retirement Income Portfolio III (Highest risk).

The three portfolios, managed by the Aviva Investors’ multi-asset team, will be constructed using a mix of global assets, aiming to maximise long-term income for investors and will be available across all tax wrappers, launching first on the Aviva Platform.

They remain part of SimplyBiz’s Risk Controlled Workflow and will be accessible to advisers using Defaqto Engage, with more platforms to follow.

Aviva Investors global head of wealth – UK Smera Ashraf says: “Aviva Investors has a deep heritage in the pensions and retirement space, and we are pleased to draw from this experience as well as listening to our clients to revise our Retirement Income MPS. This addresses the complex requirements of the retail and IFA market in a growing area.”

Defaqto head of investment & protection Andy Parsons says: “It is great to see Aviva Investors bringing to market a solution that not only utilises their extensive expertise in managing institutional workplace pension strategies, but that seeks to address the challenges of longevity and sequencing risk, a key issue when discussing retirement strategies with clients. This will all be delivered through three MPS solutions, targeting natural income on a regular basis.”
