The workplace savings market has never stood still; today it’s evolving faster and becoming more competitive than ever before. Against that backdrop, I believe our role at Aegon is very clear: helping people live their best lives by aligning their money with what matters most. Delivering on that means going well beyond products – it requires innovation that genuinely changes behaviour, builds confidence and ultimately improves long-term outcomes.
At the centre of this is Mylo – Aegon’s award-winning app. What started as an engagement tool has become something far more meaningful. Mylo sits at the heart of how we support pension scheme members, helping them understand their pensions, make informed decisions and, crucially, take action at the moments that matter.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve consistently seen is that pensions are still viewed as complex and, in many cases, inaccessible. With developments like the Pensions Dashboard set to give people visibility of their savings, I believe the need for clear, simple and personalised support will only increase. Mylo brings together data, behavioural insight and smart technology to guide members through their financial journey, turning information into action and making better outcomes feel more achievable.
We’re building a connected ecosystem of support around Mylo as no single solution can meet every need. That’s why we bring together Pension Geeks to drive engagement and education, Aegon Assist for expert guidance and Origen to provide access to regulated advice when it’s needed. Together, this creates a far more seamless experience, with Mylo acting as the starting point – helping ensure members get the right level of support at the right time.
This member-first approach also shapes how we invest for the future. Good outcomes don’t happen by chance, particularly when most members rely on default strategies. That’s why we continue to evolve our default investment strategy, including the phased expansion into private markets, with the aim of enhancing long-term returns and delivering greater value.
Success is about delivering strong outcomes across the full journey – from accumulation through to retirement – with default solutions that are diversified, forward-looking and responsive to changing needs, market conditions and increasing regulatory focus on value for money. It’s critical we take that responsibility seriously.
Alongside this, our Guided Retirement Income proposition is designed to support members as they move from saving into spending, helping them turn their pension into a sustainable income.
I believe we have a really important role in supporting employers and trustees. In an environment of growing scrutiny and consolidation, confidence in decision-making is key. That’s why we focus on providing clear, intuitive insight – through tools like Member Insights, as well as thought leadership from experts such as Kate Smith, Aegon’s Head of Public Affairs, to help navigate complexity and support better outcomes.
My view is that better outcomes come from helping people take action. That belief underpins everything we do at Aegon – from investing in digital innovation to applying behavioural science and initiatives like Money:Mindshift, led by Dr Thomas Mathar, behavioural science and financial wellbeing expert at Aegon, which focus on building both financial and emotional resilience.
By bringing all of this together, I believe Aegon is delivering a future-ready proposition – with Mylo as the trusted guide at its core. For me, it’s about simplifying complexity, building confidence and helping people make better financial decisions at every stage of their journey. If we can turn engagement into meaningful action, we can help deliver tangible outcomes for pension scheme members and ultimately help them live their best lives.
