Aviva is to offer its workplace pension customers access to mortgage guidance and a brokerage service by extending its partnership with Tembo.
The insurer has previously offered this on a pilot basis, but is now rolling out this mortgage support service to all workplace pension clients, as part of its wider financial wellbeing support.
Mortgage broker Tembo offers specialist mortgage support and access to a range of mortgage products including family-assistance mortgages and solutions for those struggling with affordability.
Aviva says it is expanding this service as it recognises many employees are balancing competing financial priorities alongside long-term retirement saving. It says this mortgage support should help employees better understand their borrowing options and navigate the challenges of property affordability.
Tembo was developed through Aviva’s partnership with Founders Factory, with Aviva investing seed money in the company in April 2021, and making further investments in later funding rounds. Tembo has been recognised as the UK’s Best Mortgage Broker at the British Bank Awards for four consecutive years between 2022 and 2026.
Aviva director of workplace Simon Ellis says: “We know that owning a home is at the heart of many people’s financial goals. By giving our workplace pension customers access to Tembo, we’re aiming to help people escape the rental trap and become home owners – a key component of broader long-term financial wellbeing.
“The addition of Tembo also aims to help employers by enabling them to offer meaningful support to their workforce. This is another step towards our commitment to preparing savers for better retirements.”
Tembo’s CEO Richard Dana adds: “As affordability pressures continue to affect many households, access to expert guidance and innovative mortgage solutions has never been more important. By working with Aviva, we’re helping employers provide practical support to their workforce and giving more people the tools they need to achieve their home ownership ambitions.”
