Mike Izzard is expected to be confirmed as chairman at the meeting, promising to promote the interests of the medical insurance adviser community in government and elsewhere.
Izzard, who is managing director of Premier Choice Group, is expected to take over from outgoing chairman Phil Taylor, managing director of Preferred Medical, at AMII’s AGM in Northamptonshire on April 9.
Izzard says: “We need to upscale what we do. I want to see AMII work closer with insurers and lobbying government on a number of issues. I want to see greater transparency of claims information and also work with all parties to develop schemes that can dovetail better with the state healthcare system. A good NHS needs a healthy private sector.
“I also propose to lobby the government on tax relief for healthcare for the over 60s. I estimate that it would cost the Revenue around £100m a year but would save the NHS about £1bn.”
Congratulations to John Miller, group healthcare manager at Layton Blackham, whose name was drawn from the hat of Association of Medical Insurance Intermediaries who contributed to our SME healthcare poll, covered in this month’s supplement. A bottle of champagne is on its way.
