Aon app will allow employees to view and manage workplace benefits on their mobile phone.

Aon claims that this is the first “fully transactional” smartphone app for employee benefits. This will allow them to view statements and reward plans as well as managed benefits where applicable.

Single sign-on means employees will also be able to gain access to third party benefits such as personalised pension information. Security standards of smart phones – such as fingerprint or facial recognition – mean employees do not have to input additional usernames and passwords to access this data.

For employers the app supports engagement campaigns. Push notifications encourage employees to interact with benefits at specific times, for example enrolment windows and new launches.

The app also allows employers to customise content, allowing global companies to use local languages, currencies and branding.

Aon says it has developed this app to address employees’ increasing expectation of having consumer-style easy access to their workplace benefits.

It points out that more than half of the world’s web traffic now comes from mobile phones. A total of  61 per cent  of all “digital minutes” are now on a mobile, with 80 per cent of those being on apps.

Aon’s director of online and communications Jon Bryant says: “The difference between the Aon App and anything else is that it is fully functional, meaning employees don’t just access information, they can fully interact with their benefits too.

“This is an increasingly vital part of an engagement campaign. In a world where one too many clicks are a barrier, employee benefits have to be as simple as possible to help employers engage employees in a far better way.”
