Administration and consultancy firm Aptia has appointed Ian Burns as head of investment consulting.

Aptia said this senior appointment will help the firm further strengthen its range of strategic advisory services for pension scheme trustees and sponsors.

Burns, a qualified actuary, has more than 30 years experience in the industry, and joins from Gallagher where he was a principal in investment solutions.

Prior to this he was regional market leader for the North at Mercer, leading the firm’s growth strategy across the region, and has also held senior positions at JLT Employee Benefits, KPMG, PwC, HSBC Actuaries and Consultants and Clerical Medical Investment Group.

In his new role, Burns will lead Aptia’s investment consulting proposition, supporting clients with investment strategy, governance and risk management.

Aptia is a leading provider of pension administration, consultancy and actuarial services. It recently appointed former pensions minister Guy Opperman as a senior adviser, as it looks to develop its CDC capability.

Aptia’s consulting leader Stuart Heatley says: “This appointment represents another positive step in the ongoing build of our consultancy business. [Burns’s] investment expertise, commercial leadership experience and passion for delivering client-focused solutions make him an outstanding addition to the team.”

Aptia head of investment consulting Ian Burns adds: “Having spent my career advising both trustees and corporate clients, I’m looking forward to building on Aptia’s existing investment expertise to help further create our market-leading consulting business.

“Together, we’ll focus on delivering practical, innovative advice that supports robust decision-making and drives exceptional outcomes for both clients and pension scheme members.’
