Aviva’s long-running medical director Dr Doug Wright is retiring in August following 27 years at the firm.
Wright is a dual-qualified medical and business professional with experience in developing and implementing solutions to meet healthcare needs. His work spans medical practice, healthcare delivery, strategy, operations, proposition development, and risk management.
At Aviva, he was responsible for managing access to healthcare services within the Health business, with an emphasis on clinical effectiveness and efficiency. He also contributed to the assessment of emerging technologies for potential use in the health portfolio, investment opportunities, or new proposition development.
He has worked closely with Dr Suba M to ensure a smooth transition. Suba was promoted to medical and sustainability director of the health business in January 2025 as part of succession plans for Doug’s retirement.
Aviva managing director of health Matt McGill says: “Throughout his career at Aviva, Doug has made a lasting impact. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening our internal clinical capabilities and shaping our message to the market—helping to position us for the growth we continue to build on today. His contributions have left a legacy we’re proud to carry forward.
“We thank Doug for everything he’s done and wish him all the very best for a happy and fulfilling retirement.”
