Rudd resigned from her post at the Home Office following sustained criticism of her handling of the Windrush affair, which saw people who had moved to the UK from the West Indies more than 50 years ago refused the right to remain in this country.
Rudd apologised on behalf of her department for scandal, and was accused by MPs of sheltering Prime Minister Theresa May, who had been Home Secretary prior to Rudd’s tenure of the role.
