UK consultancy Broadstone has launched a dedicated service for trade unions.
The service will look to deploy Broadstone’s expertise to support trade unions in managing their own pension arrangements, representing their members’ interests and responding to significant changes across the UK pensions landscape.
Trade unions face many of the same pensions and benefits challenges as other employers and also play a distinctive and influential role in collective bargaining, pension scheme governance and wider policy.
The Broadstone service will also give trade unions access to technical expertise when assessing proposed pension scheme changes, negotiating workplace benefits or communicating complex retirement issues to members.
David Brooks, head of policy at Broadstone and leading its trade unions service, said: “The UK pensions system is continuing to evolve with significant policy changes intended to improve outcomes for working people.
“Trade unions have been at the forefront of these debates in championing collective solutions and advocating for better retirement security while also facing many of the same challenges as other employers in delivering value for members.”
The services delivered by Broadstone also include helping trade unions as employers assess the benefits of running schemes on, balancing long-term sustainability with positive outcomes for both members and the sponsoring union.
Additionally, Broadstone will look to support collective bargaining and workplace negotiations by providing the expertise unions need to represent members’ interests with confidence, and advise member nominated trustees, providing the insight needed to make informed decisions and help deliver better outcomes for members.
