Bupa By You, which allows people to choose from one of two core options that can be enhanced with optional extras, will include a no claims discount for the first time, enabling customers to save up to 70 per cent off their annual premium.

Customers can manage premium costs by selecting an outpatient limit for consultations, therapies and tests at £500, £750 or £1,000.

The offering also includes an NHS Cancer Cover Plus option instead of full cancer cover. Under this option cancer treatment is provided by the NHS unless the radiotherapy, chemotherapy or surgical operation needed by the customer to treat their cancer is not available under their NHS, in which case Bupa will treat it.

Bupa has also introduced a new online portal for intermediaries. The Bupa By You portal includes an online quote tool, product literature, sales tools and advice for intermediaries.

Bupa consumer director Ceri Henfrey says: “We are very excited to be able to offer Bupa By You through intermediaries. It is our most flexible and adaptable product – customers like having the ability to tailor their cover to suit their budget.

“Intermediaries are very important to us so we are delighted to be able to work with them to help more people enjoy the benefits of health insurance. We have welcomed the opportunity to work with some key members of the intermediary market over the last few months, including the Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries. This consultation period has been invaluable to us while developing our no claims discount, commission models and intermediary portal.”
