The consultancy says it now has arguably the largest DC consulting resource in the country with 100 specialists across investment, plan design, provider selection, administration and HR issues.

Byrne, who joined from Investit where he was responsible for advising asset management firms on product development, has over 15 years’ experience in the fund management industry. He has produced research and contributed to publications on most aspects of DC investment. Prior to this he lectured MSc classes in investment at the University of Edinburgh, and spent ten years working in investment management at Aegon UK. He joined in September and is based in the company’s London office.

Other recent appointments in Towers Watson’s DC business include the naming of Nico Aspinall as head of DC investment, Richard Sweetman as head of DC pension consulting for the company’s Northern region and senior consultant Michael Varma.

Chris Ford, EMEA head of investment at Towers Watson says: “I am very pleased to welcome Alistair to Towers Watson where he will join our growing DC Investment team. His appointment comes at a time of increasing demand from clients for innovative thought and cost-effective DC solutions. He comes with excellent credentials and we look forward to his contribution to our growing team.”
