Among the ministerial appointments this week is CDC advocate and co-chair of the RSA Collective Defined Contributions (CDC) Pensions Forum, Lord David Pitt-Watson, who has been named Parliamentary Secretary in HM Treasury.
Pitt-Watson, who became a life peer earlier this year, began co-chairing the RSA Collective Defined Contribution (CDC) Forum in 2018, when the Royal Society of Arts established the group. The forum supports the policy implementation and regulation of CDC pension schemes.
In 2012, he was commissioned by the RSA to lead the Tomorrow’s Investor programme. It aimed to examine the UK pension system and whether it could be improved to deliver better outcomes for savers and the wider economy. By July 2021, he had officially begun leading the national online launch of the expanded RSA CDC Pensions Forum.
The forum aims to bring together pension experts, actuaries, and regulators, promote sound rules for single-employer and multi-employer CDC rollouts and advocate for pooled risk models projected to boost retirement income efficiency.
Pitt-Watson has been a Labour member since the 1980s, serving as a local councillor and the party’s Assistant General Secretary and Director of Finance from 1997 to 1999.
Additionally, he is a fellow of the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School and chair of the Scottish Taskforce for Green and Sustainable Financial Services.
