Cigna UK HealthCare Benefits is launching a new app offering workers personalised health and wellbeing tools and coaching.
Called Cigna Virtual Health, the app features a symptom checker, virtual GP appointments provided by Dr Now, part of Now Healthcare Group, and prescriptions delivered to the workplace or home. Health numbers can be stored on the app and activity trackers can be synced to help track health improvement and progress.
Cigna says the service is designed to help those looking to improve their lifestyle but who are struggling to get started.
The launch comes as research from Cigna shows 94 per cent of people want to improve their health, but only 6 per cent see their health insurer as a go-to source for support to help them do this.
The research found eight out of 10 people think it is important to track their progress when making health improvements, while 68 per cent of employees are interested in healthcare provider tools that can help turn tracked data from wearable devices into a more detailed picture of their health and wellbeing.
Cigna managing director Phil Austin says: “It goes without saying that healthier people drive a healthier business. Employers are looking for a health partner to change market dynamics and push boundaries. We need to move beyond only treating employees when they’re unwell.
Olympic swimmer and guest presenter at Cigna’s launch of the service Mark Foster says: “As a user of sports apps, it’s great to see healthcare providers help their customers to improve and maintain a healthy lifestyle using digital technology and recommended coaching programmes.”
