Unum’s health and wellbeing app now has over a quarter of a million users, and is utilised by 1,100 businesses.

Take up of this Help@hand app, which offers acess a remote GP service, has increased significantly in the wake of the Covid lockdowns, where there has been restrictions to many primary healthcare services.

Unum says over 8,400 appointments were booked via this app in 2020, with one in six of the bookings made in the last six months being for partners or children of employees covered. In total 9 per cent of booking made in July last year were for children under the age of 16.

The out of hours options are also proving useful, with 15 per cent of patients either making appointments at the weekend or before 8am or after 8pm on weekdays.

The vast majority (97 per cent) of these remote GP appointments have been offered within 2 hours of initial customer engagement, or within two hours of customer’s preferred time.

Unum says a total of 96 per cent of mental health support and physio appointments have been offered with two working days.

Unum point out it also integrated its Employee Assistance Programme within the app in April last year, to provide a comprehensive digital health and wellbeing offering for employees in the workplace.

The service is available at no additional cost for employees insured through a Unum Group Income Protection policy. The app is powered by Square Health.

Unum UK CEO  Peter O’Donnell says: “Our focus is on providing quality health and wellbeing services that enable simple and fast access to medical experts. 2020 was an extremely difficult year for us all, and we are proud to be able to give employers, employees and their families the vital support they need – whenever they need it.”
