Former Hargreaves Lansdown policy head joins Guiide as external adviser

Guiide has appointed Tom McPhail to its team of external advisers.

McPhail, who retains his role of director of public affairs at The Lang Cat, an insight, marketing and communications consultancy specialising in financial services, was formerly the head of retirement policy at Hargreaves Lansdown. He is currently governor at the Pension Policy Institute.

Guiide founder and Pensions Actuary Kevin Hollister says: “Tom’s a big personality in the pensions world having been involved at Hargreaves Lansdown and still involved now with The Lang Cat. We met Tom a few times and his view of the industry and the support that people need is very much aligned to ours. We thought it would be very good for us for him to join us as an adviser and help us in getting that message across to the industry as a whole.”

“Tom’s experience and foresight in pensions products and policy will be invaluable to us. It will also complement our other adviser’s knowledge and expertise.”

McPhail: “Ten years on from pension freedoms, there’s still a lot of work to be done helping pension investors manage their savings in retirement. Guiide is at the forefront of this work, making a meaningful difference to ordinary investors, so I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with them.”
