Nilsson takes up the role with immediate effect and will report directly to Paul Spencer CBE, chairman of the trustee of the BTPS, and chair of the BTPSM Board.

BTPSM provides a range of investment management and advisory services to the Trustee of the BTPS, which is one of the largest UK defined benefit pension schemes with assets of around £50bn. Nilsson’s key responsibilities will be to lead all aspects of support to the Trustee of the BTPS, including asset and liability management, operations, administration and other member services.

Nilsson joined the pensions and investment industry in 2001 and spent over a decade with the £90bn Danish pension scheme ATP, where he held a series of senior positions across administration, investments, product and business development. In 2010, Nilsson moved to London to found Now: Pensions, and left in the summer of 2017, shortly after it left the Pensions Regulator’s master trust assurance framework approved provider list.

Spencer says: “The trustee is delighted to welcome Morten to the team and we look forward to working with him to further strengthen the activities of the Trustee of the BT Pension Scheme, and support our 300,000 members.”

Nilsson says: “I very much look forward to working with the Trustees and the rest of the team. It is an ambitious and dynamic organisation with a history of successfully using the scale of the fund to find new innovative and forward-looking ways to protect its members’ interests. It is a great privilege to be joining the BT Pension Scheme Management.”
