Former Willis chief joins Alexander Forbes’ SA business

Former Willis Employee Benefits chief executive Tony Powis is joining Alexander Forbes’ South African business where he takes the role of CEO, corporate & employee benefits.

Alexander Forbes is also appointing former Manulife senior executive vice president & chief administration officer John Mather to the role of group chief information officer.

The senior appointments are part of Alexander Forbes’ plan to deliver its “Ambition

As well as his role as CEO of Willis Employee Benefits, Powis was also formerly chairman & CEO of Willis PMI Group in the UK.

He has worked for over 28 years’ across employee benefit and specialist risk management leadership roles. Among his strategic responsibilities, Powis will focus on expanding the employee benefits and consulting business of Alexander Forbes, including the provision of employee-based financial wellbeing solutions across Alexander Forbes’ corporate clients.

Alexander Forbes group chief executive Andrew A. Darfoor says: “We are delighted to welcome two world-class executives in John and Tony to Alexander Forbes. They each bring deep domain experience, a global perspective as well as proven track records of success and delivery that will be crucial as we continue our transformation journey of building a globally distinctive pan-African financial services leader.”
