Health Shield appoints new chief executive

Health Shield Friendly Society has appointed Jacqui Carr to be its new chief executive.

Carr has worked at the cash plan provider for a number of years, and has been responsible for re-engineerings its approach to culture, staff and member engagement.

She replaces Geoff Spencer who has been acting as interim CEO, since Courtney Marsh stepped down from the role last July, after a decade leading Health Shield.

Health Shield has also appointed Paul Shires as its new commercial director. He has previously been managing director of UK healthcare at Westfield Health and head of partnerships at Cigna, and has in total more than 30 years’ experience working in financial services.

Health Shield says Carr’s previous career roles have included significant change management centred upon driving business success and improvement through well implemented people initiatives.

Julie Hansen, chair of Health Shield says : “In a challenging post-pandemic world, and one where our regulators expect diversity and inclusion to be key to achieving sustainable business success, Health Shield believes Jacqui will be an outstanding leader.”
