Hymans Robertson appoints two equity members

Hymans Robertson has appointed Michael Abramson and Emma McWilliam to the role of equity member.

Abramson worked for Prudential’s bulk annuity division until joining Hymans Robertson in 2018. Prior to that, he held prominent positions in Legal & General’s bulk annuity division. Abramson offers guidance in the field of risk transfer, concentrating on solutions for de-risking DB pension plans and the transfer of pension plan risk to insurance firms.

He currently provides trustees and sponsors of some of the biggest UK pension plans with advice on de-risking techniques, and he has been a driving force behind many of the biggest buy-ins and buy-outs to date, from both the standpoint of the pension scheme and the insurer. Abramson was a significant contributor to Hymans Robertson becoming the industry leader in risk transfer.

McWilliam, who has been with Hymans Robertson since 2015, oversees the company’s Insurance & Financial Services division. Prior to this, McWilliam worked with Miliman and EY internationally in the US and Europe. She has extensive knowledge of the bulk markets and has a history of collaborating closely with insurers to provide financial reporting.

She has provided advice on a wide range of projects, including those involving mergers and acquisitions, IFRS, Solvency II, risk and capital management, and more. McWilliam is currently a member of the Board of Abelica Global as well as the Court of the Worshipful Company of Actuaries after serving on the Board of Hymans Robertson for the previous four years. She was once the chair of the Board of the Investment and Life Assurance Group and is currently the editor of the RiskBooks publication Longevity Risk.

Hymans Robertson senior partner John Dickson says: “I’m thrilled to announce the news that Michael Abramson and Emma McWilliam have accepted our invitation to become equity members. Diversity and depth of expertise sit at the heart of Hymans Robertson. The appointments are excellent news for the firm as they both bring an additional injection of talent, energy and ability to the already outstanding member group.

“Michael and Emma have already each made a rich contribution to the markets they work in and the firm’s success. The partnership structure at Hymans Robertson lies at the very heart of our identity and these appointments emphasise our confidence in, the long-term future of our firm.”
