The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) has appointed Paul Sweeting as the next President-elect of the IFoA.
Sweeting will take over as president-elect following Kartina Tahir Thomson’s election on July 24, at the IFoA annual general meeting.
He will be the first president to hold office for a two-year term beginning in the summer of 2025 under the new IFoA governance reforms, which were approved by Council in December 2023.
Sweeting teaches actuarial science at the University of Kent as an honorary professor and serves as a senior adviser at Hassana Investment Company. He has volunteered for the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries for many years, and he is a fellow of both organisations.
He holds fellow status in the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Statistical Society, and the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment. He is also a chartered enterprise risk actuary and a CFA Charterholder.
IFoA president Kalpana Shah says: “It is exciting to confirm Paul Sweeting as incoming president-elect and I would like to extend a warm welcome to the presidential team. I have known Paul for several years, and have experienced, first hand, his enthusiasm and dedication to the profession.
“It is unusual for a president-elect to not be a current member of Council and his fresh perspective will be invaluable as we continue our journey of cultural transformation and governance reform. It is a real privilege to serve the membership in this role and I wish Paul every success as he prepares to become president of the IFoA.”
Sweeting says: “It is a great honour to be chosen as the next president-elect of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. I look forward to engaging with our members around the world, and making this a profession for them to be proud of.”
