Angela Rayner has been named as Labour’s new shadow pensions minister, with Nick Thomas-Symonds departing the post to a new role after just five months.
Thomas-Symonds moves to a new position within the work and pensions team as employment minister. He replaces Emily Thornberry, who now leads on the Labour’s defence policy.
Rayner, the MP for Ashton-Under-Lyne, was newly elected in the 2015 general election.
She has held several roles in Unison, the public sector workers union, and has formerly worked as a care worker.
