Global health company Medigo has set up a new second medical opinion service, which will also offer worldwide medical concierge services.
This new product – known as GlobalCare – will be available to both organisations and individuals.
The company is also launching another product GlobalCover, which will provide treatment-based insurance for major illnesses, including cancer treatment, heart surgery, neurosurgery, and live-organ transplants. For an additional premium, employers provide access to treatment options abroad where UK health provision is restrictive or non existent.
Medigo was founded in 2013, primarily to help individual navigate international health system. Its first product was a medical tourism platform that allows patients to compare and book medical treatments at hospitals and clinics internationally.
Since then it has offered a wider range of products, many of which are aimed at the employer market for healthcare.
This new GlobalCare product is a medical concierge service, which is aimed at the growing number of patients who self-pay for treatment. For the subscription fee – which may be paid for by employers – employees have access to a second medical opinion service, as well asa dedicated personal assistant who can help patients chose a medical provider, compare treatment costs, book this treatment and arrange travel and accommodation and translation services in 35 different countries.
Medigo’s UK managing director Bruce Eaton says: “These products are great for employers who are looking for smart ways to make their health benefits relevant.
“Both products support the health needs of the modern, multigenerational workforce. These products bring a significant change to employee health and wellbeing benefits by providing more choices than traditional benefit packages. With these products employers can take responsibility for delivering healthcare solutions that meet the needs of their workforce in a scalable way.”
