L&G will promote Tracey Bridger to the role of claims & governance director for its group protection business.
Bridger, who is currently head of claims for group protection, will take over this role at the start of 2026.
Vanessa Sallows, who currently holds this role will remain with L&G, but will step into the newly created role of claims & clinical development director. She will work reduced hours in this role but remain part of L&G’s executive team. Sallows will also remain as one of the media spokespeople for the group protection business.
Birdger has worked for L&G for 20 years, beginning as a claims assessor and progressing through roles as team manager and head of claims. She has played a key role in shaping a high-performing claims function that reflects L&G’s values and purpose.
Sallows has played a vital role in shaping L&G’s Group Protection strategy as part of the senior leadership team. She has led on a number of initiatives which have included its ‘once and done’ approach to medical underwriting in 2008/9, simplifying life assurance claims by not requesting death certificates, and co-creating L&G’s ‘Not a Red Card’ campaign from 2016-202 – which was mentioned as a best practice example in the government-commissioned Thriving at work, review, (by Stevenson and Farmer) looking at mental health and employment.
L&G’s managing director UK protection, retail business James Shattock says: “[Bridger] brings extensive experience, a strong customer focus and a collaborative leadership style that will support our continued progress. [Sallows] has been with L&G for 21 years and has made an outstanding contribution to L&G Group Protection. We’re thrilled that she’ll continue to bring her expertise to the business in a new role.”
