These changes include the the addition of three new conditions and updates to eight existing conditions.

L&G’s group CIC policy allows employers to choose either a core set of illnesses, or increase their level of protection by including a set of additional illnesses.

These improvements mean that 15 core conditions are now covered as standard, while the overall number of conditions that can be covered has increased to 41 under the flexible policy.

There have also been changes to the children’s cover available. This is already included as standard for the insured employee. But these changes mean this cover will be automatically available from birth.

In addition L&G has included cover for six child-only conditions to the proposition.

L&G says it plans further improvements to its group CIC product later this year.

L&G distribution director of group protection Colin Fitzgerald says: “We have updated our critical illness products to offer advisers and their clients better support, added flexibility and greater confidence that they will be protected during difficult times.

“Providing better value for customers is central to our proposition and with more innovations in the pipeline this year we look forward to improving our products further to become one of the leading providers of group CIC.”
