Legal & General has enhanced its group critical illness cover, with a view to increasing coverage and making it easier for advisers to compare options in the market for clients.
This upgrade will see the provider cover two additional conditions, while also updating and clarifying certain definitions to help clients when there is a claim.
The changes reflect advances in medical diagnoses and will support an improved experience for employers and their employees and policy administration.
The new conditions are systemic lupus erythematosus (a long-term autoimmune disease) and primary pulmonary arterial hypertension (high blood pressure in the blood vessels that supply the lungs).
There are further clarifications and updates to seven existing conditions, alongside more general updates to other aspects of cover. For example a ‘suited occupation’ definition has been added to total and permanent disability, improving the options available. The terms relating to salary increases have also been made clearer, to help reduce the administration in many cases.
These improvements to policy administration also include aligning the flex and voluntary terms. Employees whose employers has provided the option for them to take out cover on a voluntary basis, can now also increase their cover when on parental leave.
L&G Group Protection head of product and proposition James Walker says: “The addition of two new conditions improves our proposition, making it easier for intermediaries to recommend L&G when looking for suitable arrangements for their clients.
“Importantly, our existing group critical illness cover customers will also benefit from the enhancements from their next rate review, helping improve the experience for all our customers.”
