Nearly 35pc of businesses having difficulties recruiting employees – research

Over a third of businesses in the UK reported difficulties in recruiting employees in September 2022, according to Broadstone.

According to an analysis of the most recent government statistics by Broadstone, 62 per cent of companies who were having trouble filling open positions identified a lack of competent applicants or a low number of applications as the primary issue.

Nearly 18 per cent of businesses also cited a decline in EU applications, 19 per cent cited an increase in open positions, and 29 per cent had trouble providing applicants with a competitive wage package.

Four out of ten enterprises, or 40 per cent, anticipate further increases by the end of the year, while roughly 47 per cent of businesses reported higher staff expenditure in the last three months.

Broadstone director David Pye: “Employers in the UK are experiencing huge difficulties when it comes to recruiting high-quality employees as the hunt for talent intensifies. It underlines the need for businesses to do all they can to retain their existing talent through attractive compensation packages and differentiated employee benefits propositions.”
