Nest teamed up with Good Things Foundation’s National Device Bank to donate 342 laptops.

The National Device Bank, established in 2022, refurbishes devices used by businesses and then gives them to people who don’t have access to or knowledge of digital technologies. In the UK, 7 per cent of homes do not have an internet connection, and 10.2 million people lack fundamental digital skills.

Nest chief financial officer and diversity equity and inclusion champion Richard Lockwood says: “When we updated our technology at Nest, several of our colleagues suggested we explore options for donating our redundant laptops.

“As a digital-first scheme, we know how important it is to close the digital divide. And as a pension scheme designed to serve those on low to moderate incomes, who have often been underserved by financial institutions, this partnership felt like a perfect fit.

“We’re proud to have been able to give our old tech a new purpose with Good Things Foundation.”

Good Things Foundation partnerships manager Natasha Early says: “We are grateful for Nest’s generous donation of 342 laptops to the National Device Bank.

“This contribution not only reflects Nest’s commitment to corporate social responsibility but also strengthens our mission to fix the digital divide.

“By refurbishing and redistributing devices, we’re empowering digitally-excluded individuals whilst also contributing to the circular economy, already preventing 77,625kg of e-waste. Together, we can fix the digital divide – for good.”
