Aetna International is appointing David Healy to the newly created role of CEO, EMEA, following a decision to merge its European and Middle East & Africa divisions.
Healy joined Aetna in 2012 and previously held the position of general manager for Europe and VP head of global operations.
Healy will now lead Aetna’s expansion of international business across EMEA, which includes international health benefits and health management solutions. The provider covers more than 900,000 people worldwide.
He will be supported by a multi-cultural team of over 500 people across EMEA.
Before joining Aetna, Healy worked for Aegon Ireland, where he was managing director for life, investment and variable annuity products in Europe. He joined J Rothschild International in 1993 to help launch its international operations from Dublin. In 1995 Healy joined the cross-border life assurance company Scottish Equitable International in Luxembourg at its start-up, becoming managing director in 1997.
Healy will be based at the regional headquarters in the United Arab Emirates.
Healy says: “In order to support our strategy to scale-up our capabilities, work with stakeholders on further developing healthcare infrastructure and create greater access to the right healthcare solutions, we have implemented a new structure by creating an EMEA region.
“Not only will this allow us to leverage our strengths and give our people the best environment to contribute and develop, it will also allow faster decision-making, more regional empowerment and accountability and put our customer groups at the heart of everything we do – including brokers.”
