Dominic Harris, a specialist pension lawyer, has been appointed as the new Pensions Ombudsman.

The Department of Work and Pensions confirmed that Harris will take over when the current Ombudsman Anthony Arter steps down in January 2023.

Harris is currently a partner in the pensions team at law firm CMS. He also serves as the chair of the investment and defined contribution committee of the Association of Pension Lawyers.

Minister for pensions Guy Opperman says described Harris as “the ideal candidate” to lead the Pensions Ombudsman service.

The Pensions Ombudsman is a tribunal non-departmental public body of the DWP. In this role Harris will also oversee disputes relating the Pension Protection Fund and hear appeals against decisions made by the Financial Assistance Scheme manager.

He will also work with the Pensions Ombudsman board to set the strategic direction of the organisation. The role attracts a salary of £142,095 which is uprated annually.
