New trustee chair at TPT as Smart steps down

Capital Cranfield director Joanna Matthews will become chair of the trustee board of TPT Retirement Solutions, replacing Sarah Smart who steps down after eight years.

Matthews is a professional independent trustee and is currently chair of the Royal Mail Pension Plan, the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme, the Siemens Benefit Scheme, the Vodafone Group Pension Scheme and the Civil Aviation Authority Pension Scheme. She will continue to Chair these after her appointment to TPT’s trustee board.She trained as a lawyer and was formerly a partner in a pensions law practice.

Smart leaves to take a role at Avida International, the investment governance organisation.

TPT Retirement Solutions chief executive Mike Ramsey says: “Joanna’s extensive experience will be invaluable in ensuring the continued growth of TPT and delivering the best possible outcomes for our members.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Sarah Smart for all her contributions to TPT over the last eight years. Sarah has been a transformational and inspirational chair.

“Since Sarah joined TPT in 2010, membership has nearly doubled and assets under management have grown from £4.3 billion to £10 billion. Under Sarah’s guidance TPT has reinvented itself; launching a new DC offering in 2012, a new strategy positioning it as a DB consolidator in 2015 and a new governance structure in 2016.

“A relentless champion for members, Sarah leaves TPT in great shape. We wish her all the best for the future.”

Matthews says: “I’m thrilled to accept this position as Chair of TPT’s Trustee Board and look forward to working across the organisation to ensure that the best possible outcomes are delivered for our members.”

Smart says: “I wish Joanna the best in her new role, in which I’m sure she’ll prove incredibly successful. Her proven track record and experience makes her ideally placed to lead TPT’s trustee board in the future.

“I’d like to thank the team at TPT for all their support over the past eight years and wish them the very best for the future.”
