Pat McFadden has been appointed secretary of state for the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), replacing Liz Kendall in the government reshuffle following Angela Rayner’s resignation.

McFadden has been a member of parliament since 2005, representing Wolverhampton South East. He has held a range of ministerial and shadow positions, including minister of state for business, innovation and skills (2009–2010), minister of state for employment relations and postal affairs (2007–2009), and parliamentary secretary for the cabinet office (2006–2007).

He was previously chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster between 5 July 2024 and 5 September 2025 and minister for intergovernmental relations between 5 September 2024 and 6 September 2025.

Meanwhile, Kendall has been appointed as science, innovation and technology secretary.
