Paul Smee appointed to Now Pensions board

Now Pensions

Now Pensions has appointed Paul Smee to its board of directors.

Smee has extensive experience in the financial services industry having previously been director general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders, which merged into UK Finance. He has also run the Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS), and in this role set up the UK Payments Council. Prior to this Smee was  the first director general of the Association of Independent Financial Advisors.

Smee will replace Laurie Edmans on the Now Pensions board. Now Pensions is a large auto-enrolment provider which currently provides the pension for 2m people in the UK. However, in the past it has struggled with administrative problems and poor returns on its default fund, although the most recent figures, published in Corporate Advisers Master Trust report, indicate an improvement in its investment performance.

Commenting on this appointment Now Pensions non-executive chairman Michaël De Lathauwer says: “Now Pensions has a crucial role to play in helping to guarantee that the next decade of auto-enrolment continues to be a success. I am delighted to welcome Paul to our board to support us with our priorities.”

Paul Smee, non-executive director says: “I’m very much looking forward to my new role on the Now Pensions board and working with the team to continue to support our members and employers. I am impressed by what I have seen so far seen of the company and its contribution to the UK pensions landscape.”
