Louise Cater, an employee at the Saracen’s Head Hotel in Highworth, Wiltshire, is the 500,000th person to be auto-enrolled into the scheme. Louise’s employer, Arkell’s Brewery, which includes a chain of public houses, is a family-run business that has operated in the Swindon area since 1843.

B&CE chief executive Patrick Heath-Lay says: “We launched The People’s Pension in 2011 because we wanted to use our experience to help employers with automatic enrolment and provide a good quality pension scheme for their staff.

“Although we have now auto-enrolled over 500,000 people, our job is not done, far from it. We will continue to focus on providing the best possible service to employers and their employees, and remain committed to serving any employer no matter how small.”
