Schroders Capital’s real estate team has appointed Peter Lowe as a senior fund manager in the UK, responsible for the Scottish Widows funds that total around £4bn.

Lowe will oversee fund performance and strategy in this newly created position based in London and report to Nick Montgomery, head of UK investment.

This comes after other recent recruitment in the London and Manchester offices of Schroders Capital to support the management of the Scottish Widows funds, which were onboarded in May 2022, as well as other recent new mandate appointments, such as the Greater Manchester Pension Fund in November 2021.

Lowe has 20 years of real estate experience, is a Chartered Surveyor, and has a proven track record of outperforming in a variety of diversified and specialised UK real estate strategies.

Lowe joins from Columbia Threadneedle Investments, where he oversaw the Columbia Threadneedle Property Trust as a fund manager (formerly BMO Real Estate Investments). In addition, Lowe oversaw a fund that was linked with SFDR Article 9 and focused on affordable single- and multi-family residential assets in the UK.

Prior to joining BMO, Lowe worked as a fund manager at DTZ Investment Management, managing accounts for the University Superannuation Scheme, GE CIF Trustees, and Pearl Assurance Trust.

Schroders Capital real estate team head of UK investment Nick Montgomery says: “We are very pleased that Peter is joining to oversee the delivery of the Scottish Widows fund strategies. Peter has a strong market profile with a clear track record of delivering outperformance for clients across listed, unlisted, diversified and specialist strategies.

“In his new role, Peter will work closely with our growing investment and asset management teams in London and Manchester, as well as our specialist ESG colleagues to ensure that we deliver on Scottish Widows’ sustainable investment objectives, from both an environmental and social value perspective.”

Schroders Capital real estate team fund manager Peter Lowe says:“I am looking forward to taking responsibility for such an important client portfolio, and to working with the wider Schroders team to deliver on the Scottish Widows performance objectives. I am delighted to be joining such a well regarded, progressive Real Estate business, and excited to support the further growth and development of the platform across both diversified and sector focused strategies.”
