The government has made five appointments to the Nest Board, including specialists in investment management, sustainable finance, customer experience, and risk.
The appointments were made by the minister for pensions, Emma Reynolds, and include the chief executives of Share Action and HSBC Global Asset Management.
The five new board members are:
- Catherine Howarth is chief executive of ShareAction and joins the board as recognised leader in responsible investment and making positive change through the financial sector. She is also a member of the Financial Conduct Authority’s Sustainable Finance Committee, and has had board experience at both TPT Retirement Solutions and the Scott Trust. She has been recognised as a a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum.
- Stuart White is currently CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management and has considerable experience in investment management. He has also spent the last 10 years as a trustee director of the £30bn HSBC Bank Pension Trust, where he chaired the Investment Committee.
- Michael Gordon also has extensive experience in investment management, with more than 30 years of industry experience. He currently serves as an independent director for Yarra Capital Management and previous experience includes executive roles at Perpetual Investments, Fidelity International, BNP Paribas, and Schroders Australia.
- Faith Reynolds has been appointed for her knowledge of using data and technology to better serve consumer needs, with experience in financial services, regulation and Open Banking. She currently serves as a non-executive director at Fair4All Finance and sits on the government’s Smart Data Council.
- Howard Walpole brings more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry to the Nest Board. He is an actuary with significant risk management expertise, having held key roles at Direct Line Group and Lloyds. He currently serves on the Regulatory Standards and Codes Committee of the Financial Reporting Council.

Chris Hitchen stepped down from the Nest Board on 31 May 2024 at the end of his tenure.
