Simple pension transfer times hold steady at 10 days

Average simple pension transfer times remained at 10 days over the year to 30 June 2026, according to the latest figures from the Origo Transfer Index (OTI).

Simple transfers, which account for nearly 90 per cent of all transfers processed through the Origo Transfer Service, cover straightforward pension transfers where providers have greater control over the process.

Pension transfer times overall, which include more complex cases requiring additional information from third parties, also remained unchanged at 11 days.

The Origo Transfer Index tracks transfer performance across almost 30 voluntary participants using the Origo Transfer Service, including the UK’s largest pension providers.

Origo CEO Anthony Rafferty says: “This year got off to a great start with pension transfers and it’s encouraging to see those numbers remain steady as we close the first half of 2026. Transfer times are an important industry bellwether and constitute a valuable metric for consumer experience across financial services.

“Seeing such solid and steady performance is encouraging, especially given that numerous major regulatory changes, such as IHT for pensions, are on the horizon over the next half of the year and into 2027. These could have significant implications for consumer behaviour and, by extension, transfers, so it’s incredibly encouraging to see the notable recent improvements consolidated across the board.”
