Smart Pension will provide access to a workplace pension for more than 12,000 “self-employed plus” couriers at parcel delivery company Evri, formerly known as Hermes UK.
The appointment follows Evri’s declaration that it will enrol self-employed freight couriers immediately in a workplace pension plan, a move that the GMB union hailed as a major step forward.
By the end of 2022, couriers will be included in the Smart Pension Master Trust and receive a real-time pension that they can access from any location using the web and mobile devices. According to the deal, Evri’s self-employed and courier employees will also be able to use Smart Pension’s cutting-edge “Smart Retire” technology to manage their savings after retirement.
Smart UK CEO Jamie Fiveash says: “We are delighted to be appointed by a household name such as Evri. Once again Smart Pension is at the vanguard of helping companies and individuals save for their retirement. This appointment is a testament to the commitment and quality of the Smart Pension Master Trust and the offering that is available to its almost 1 million members. Evri’s self-employed plus couriers will now have access to an award-winning pension scheme, including Smart Retire and a number of other financial wellbeing offerings.”
Evri director of delivery Conor Ormsby says: “After a long and diligent process, we are pleased to select Smart Pension as the provider of pensions to our self-employed plus couriers. Smart Pension has a great offering with huge amounts of flexibility and first-class technology to make life simple, with a truly excellent support team.”
