The Labour Government’s has confirmed £1bn of employment support measures aimed at helping disabled and long-term sick people back into work.
The details were included in the Spring Statement documents.
Last week, the Department for Work and Pensions said the new measures were designed to ensure a welfare system that is “fit for purpose and available for future generations and make inroads in reducing the 2.8 million people economically inactive due to long term sickness – one of the highest rates in the G7.”
Today’s documents confirm the government will invest in additional employment, health and skills support from 2026-27 to help people start or stay in work, and not fall into long-term economic inactivity, scaling up to £1bn a year by 2029-30.
It adds it will provide employment and health support to anyone receiving out of work benefits with a work-limiting health condition, while the investment will build on existing support from WorkWell, Connect to Work and the Get Britain Working trailblazers.
