Tributes paid to Royal London’s Alasdair Buchanan

Tributes have been paid to Alasdair Buchanan, the former head of communications for both Scottish Life and Royal London, who died on May 14.

Buchanan worked for many years managing the PR and external communications for Scottish Life.  He then became group head of communication for Royal London for the last eight years of his career, before taking retirement in 2012.

Royal London chief executive Isobel Langton said he will be missed by many of his friends and former colleagues. “With his knowledge of the group, the media and the industry, Alasdair was admired and respected by his peers, making many strong friendships across the industry.”

Buchanan trained as an actuary but had a keen interest in clear communication. In an industry that is often bedevilled with jargon and complexity , Buchanan was a rare presence, combining technical understanding with the ability to identify key issues and explain them simply and clearly.

Langton added that he supported and coached many team members throughout his career, and was known as a kind and engaging member of the team.

Buchanan, who was 69, leaves behind his wife Linda and three children. The family has asked for any donations to be made to The Lewy Body Society for research purposes in his memory.
