Tumelo appoints corporate governance adviser as it eyes US expansion

Tumelo has appointed Jon Lukomnik to its board of advisers as it looks to expand into the US market.

Lukomnik has previously been a fiduciary for the five New York City pension funds and has been cited by Forbes as one of the pioneers of modern corporate governance.

Lukomnik has considerable experience in the US pensions market, and of corporate governance in global companies. Tumelo says his advise will be ‘invaluable’ as it looks to offer its products and platforms in the US,  with a view to help democratise shareholder voting. A number of US asset managers have recently introduced ‘pass through’ voting, which should give pension funds and other large asset owners more of a say on a range of stewardship issues.

Lukomnik co-founded the International Corporate Governance Network and has held a number of executive and research posts. He was executive director of the IRRC Institute for more than a decade, and is a former Pembroke visiting professor at the Judge Business School at Cambridge.

Lukomik has also served on multiple boards and was recently appointed the inaugural fellow at the Sustainable Investing Research Initiative at the School of International and Public Affairs of Columbia University. He has also co-authored Moving Beyond Modern Portfolio Theory: Investing That Matters.

Tumelo co-founder Will Goodwin says “Jon brings a huge amount of experience to our board of advisors, helping us to develop products that solve real problems for our customers. As we expand into the US market, he will provide invaluable strategic support to the business.”
