Unum’s UK chief executive Mark Till has joined the board of the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

This board provides the strategic direction to the Association’s work and is chaired by the former Conservative MP,  Baroness Nicky Morgan.

In addition to joining the Board, Till will also chair the ABI’s health and protection committee, which forms an integral part of the trade association’s health and protection policy development processes.

In this role Till will steer the group’s discussions on policy as the industry seeks to engage with the new government and demonstrate how the sector can support the UK’s productivity.

Till has held a number of senior roles in the industry, working for Fidelity, Standard LIfe, Barclays Bank and Aegon, where he was managing director.

He became CEO of Unum UK in February 2021, and has focused on a growth strategy, particularly across the workplace protection market. During these period the company has seen the number of individuals its insures increase by over 39 per cent.

Baroness Nicky Morgan says: “[Till’s] experience and knowledge of the industry, and the health and protection market will be hugely valuable as we forge ahead with our mission to support the health and financial resilience of the country.”

Till adds: “As an industry, there is great opportunity to work together in supporting people’s health and ensuring we have a world-leading sector with transparent and accessible products and services for all.

“Access to health and protection cover brings enormous benefits to individuals and their family members, not to mention the wider economy. As chair, my goal is to help improve understanding of financial protection insurances and broaden their reach to more people.”
