Unum is enhancing its Employee Assistance Programme which is available to all group income protection, critical illness and group life customers.
This EAP will now offer a range of additional health and wellbeing support services, as well as greater digital capability, at no additional cost. These various benefits are available through Unum’s partnership with LifeWorks.
This enhanced benefit package includes:
- New perks and savings: such as digital gift card discounts, online cashback and in-store and online coupons
- Enhanced mobile app: this enables employees to see all LifeWorks’ tools on a mobile device
- Additional wellness content: a range of articles, podcasts and toolkits covering physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing
- Personalised new feed for employers to suit their business needs, so wellbeing resources and company messages can be adjusted to reflect key business initiatives
Unum says these improvements reflect its ambition to broaden its proposition from its core role of providing financial protection for more serious health issues. It now wants to extend this to provide broader support around a whole range of work/ life issues.
It says this service-focused approach can help employers demonstrate to employees how valued they are. Recent Unum research found 20 per cent of employees wanted these “soft perks” added to their benefits packages, with almost a third (31 per cent) specifically wanting retail discounts to be included.
Unum’s customer solutions director Glenn Thompson says: “We are further developing and enhancing the services we provide over the coming months.
“As a first stage, [we are] enhancing our service offering, and developing our EAP offering with perks, savings and access to valuable wellbeing content.”
He adds: “Access to LifeWorks and all its resources is freely accessible to anyone covered by Unum’s financial protection policies and is available at the touch of a button, 24 hours a day.
“LifeWorks provides support and resources to help manage a range of issues – from maintaining a healthy work/life balance, career concerns or family and health issues. Our aim is to enable each person to take control of their wellbeing on their own terms.”
The Unum’s LifeWorks EAP already includes a range of benefits, including confidential 24-hour telephone line, counselling and coaching options, advice and support on legal, financial, childcare, eldercare and education issues, line manager support for the employer as well as employee support assessments.
